Our Team

Mathew Gershater:

Mathew Gershater, started MAT 13 years ago with the vision of sharing. a safe, educational, outdoor experience for children. Over the years documenting the adventures and experiences of MAT campers, grew the video production experience. Now he is also the owner of Ben Reel Productions, a documentary film productions company. Mathew's seemingly endless energy leads to a vibrant contagious success in all of his endeavors.


Joelle O'Connor Rivetts:

Joelle O'Connor is MAT's 11 year veteran Director. With her ingenious knack for scheduling and coordinating, she makes MAT happen. Not only does she have her Wilderness First Responder and CPR certification, you will see her involvement in all aspects of camp, every day all summer long.


Kerstin Swenson Flavin:

Kerstin Swenson was born and raised in the woods of New Hampshire. Though this is her fourth year with MAT she has been teaching preschool in the valley for 4 years. Kerstin recently earned her teaching degree and has a back round in athletic training. Currently she teaches at Hemingway Elementary School. She is FA & CPR certified and a Red Cross certified lifeguard with an obvious love for kids and the outdoors.


Jesse Armstrong (the Mr.):

Jesse Armstrong (the Mr.) is a six year veteran counselor at Mountain Adventure Tours. He is a native Oregonian who has a true passion for the outdoors. When he is not Mountain Adventuring he works in high school special education, coaches wrestling and volleyball and rides his 1966 Vespa scooter.


Jessie Armstrong (the Mrs.):

Jessie Armstrong (the Mrs.) has been helping her brother, Mat Gershater, with Mountain Adventure Tours since the beginning. A 11 year veteran counselor Jessie can't wait for camp to start every summer. She holds a current Wilderness First Responder certification and is CPR/First Aid certified. During the school year Jessie is a preschool teacher in early childhood education and coaches high school and club volleyball. She loves kids, the outdoors and having tons o' fun!


John "Bidsy" Bidon:

Bidsy is the annual Mountain Adventure Tours very special guest. Back by popular demand, 10 years and running, Bidsy leads his very own Camp Bidsy.


Andy Sabatier and Murphy:

"Andy and his canine copilot Murphy have been a part of MAT since 2006. Originally from Maryland by way of Alabama, Andy spent 5 years living life out loud in Idaho and Utah while competing on the Freeskiing World Tour before finding his career path in medicine. He moved to New York City to attend NYU in pursuit of a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree in 2010 and has been spending his free weeks in Idaho with MAT ever since. Andy and Murphy make it their mission to bring enthusiasm, creativity, and passion to MAT every day in order to provide each camper with a fulfilling and fun experience. Andy is ACLS, BLS, CSCS, and EMT1 certified, while his dog Murphy is S&R certified."


Whitney Mcnees:

Whitney McNees is entering her third summer with Mountain Adventure Tours. Her passion for the outdoors is passed on to the kids via her enthusiasm toward each activity. Whitney is a certified yoga teacher with the Yoga Alliance, and has been running children's yoga programs for the past two and a half years. She brings peace of mind and an eye for safety to all of our adventures. Whitney also has been producing and editing video for the past eight years, which makes her a valuable asset on the M.A.T. video editing team. She attributes her love for children to being brought up as the eldest of five in her family.

Ian Timoney:

The MAT team is happy to welcome back Ian for his 4th summer of adventure. After graduating from the University of Montana Ian returned to his native Idaho to enjoy the outdoors. In the off season you can find Ian mountain biking, snowboarding, traveling in South America or playing guitar at local venues with his band Army of Pines.
