Camp and Program Descriptions

Mini MAT:

A safe and fun introduction to “Enviro-tainment” for the youngest adventurers.  Campers will spend time exploring the Wood River Valley and beyond. Activities range from water play, swimming, hot springs, art projects, short hikes and local tours depending on the weather that week.


Mini Super Hero Camp:

It's a bird...it's a plane... it's superhero camp! If you could have any special powers, what would they be? Invent your own secret superhero identity, choose your superpower, and make your costume accessories. Concoct a batch of kryptonite, and make up adventures with other young superheroes! Find out what local super heros live in our community. Fire Fighters, Police, Doctors and even Search & Rescue Dogs.


Now That’s What I Call FUN Camp:

Throughout the summer we will visit MAT's favorite spots, old and new. Campers will enjoy Enviro-tainment from Dierkes Lake, Magic Reservoir, BaseCamp, Crater's of the Moon, Bruneau Sand Dunes, and The Big Lost River.  When we’re not out exploring, swimming, trekking, and getting dirty we will tour local businesses throughout the Magic and Wood River Valleys, and go anywhere that people invite us, to show us what they do. Don't forget that we practice 'Leave No Trace’ ethics; we leave every place we visit cleaner than before we came.


Mini Bugs and Critters:

Do you love creepy, crawly little critters? Come explore with us while we find insects of all shapes and sizes! We will venture out into the woods of Ketchum to find some interesting insects. We will also take a trip to the Botanical Gardens to see what kind of bugs crawl around their gardens! Be prepared to creep and crawl around in the mud just like the bugs!!


Bike Raft and Climb:

Get ready for a BIG adventure! ! ! Lets start the week with a half day of climbing with the Sawtooth Mountain Guides. Next, we head to Lowman for a ride down the Payette River with the experienced guides from Payette River Company. That evening we will camp at the famous Payette River Company beach camp. To end the week we will finish with a visit to the private bike course at the ranch. In between these hardcore activities we will do what we do best here at MAT Ð HAVE FUN. . . 


Mini Treasure Hunters:

Ayyye Captain! Get ready to spend your days searching and seeking all over the Wood River Valley. Each day the hunt is on! Can you find the clues left behind by pirates? Can you find your own lunch? Everyday you will be faced with a new treasure hunt so bring your mates and get ready for fun!


Wild West Montana Adventure/My first road trip for girls:

For the 6th year MAT presents the Montana Adventure. We will visit two very much alive ghost towns, Virginia City and Nevada City, to see what it was like to live in the 1800's. Just when you think this trip can't get any better we head to Yellowstone for a day trip. Between fly fishing, horseback riding, car singing, swimming, and searching for wildlife we will still have plenty of time to ADVENTURE!


Wild West Montana Adventure/ADVANCED:

For the first time MAT camp heads to Glacier National Park for a guided tour on foot and by boat. Evenings will be spent in a cabin just outside the park. This trip is open to Wild West Montana vets and new campers. Once again this trip is just for girls!


MAT Olympics Camp:

Join Mountain Adventure Tours for our very own Olympics camp during the last week of the 2012 summer Olympics. This camp will offer participants of all skill levels an opportunity to have fun and develop some new skills in a variety of areas. Campers will practice and play a variety of team and individual sports throughout the week; some of which include soccer, volleyball, relays, biking, swimming and trekking. This camp will also have an opening and closing ceremony.


Intro to Making an Adventure Video w/Overnight:

As your children tour businesses, climb mountains and swim during their daily adventures they will learn how to make a video. One hour each day will be focused on downloading and editing video with an end of the week final video production. BYO Digital Video Camera, Flip camera, I Touch or Digital Camera with a movie function and letÕs make some adventure movies.


Fly Fishing and Fun:

Start by learning the basics from some of the top guides at Silver Creek Outfitters, Lost River Outfitters or Ketchum on the Fly. Your child will progress from casting in a pond to the glory of catching a wild trout on the Big Wood or Big Lost River. When we are not fishing, weÕll be exploring, playing and telling fish stories around the campfire.


Forts and Sorts:

The ultimate PLAY IN THE WOODS camp. Construct shelters from the primitive forest materials used by hunters, Native Americans and pioneers. Make a shelter from fallen trees, branches and/or stones, then stay overnight in your newly constructed fort at the MAT ranch or BASECAMP.


Wild West Cowpokes:

Saddle up buckaroos, and get ready to go back to the wild, wild, west. Bring your cowboy hats along with your imagination because this is going to be a fun filled week. Includes 2 days horseback riding with an overnight by the campfire just like in the old days. Horse Back Riding provided by Mystic Saddle Ranch and Wild Horse Creek Ranch.


Splash Bash and Mini Splash Bash:

Here at Mountain Adventure Tours we know how much you all love to get wet, and so do we! Get ready to explore the rivers and lakes of Idaho. Our time will be spent checking out local water life, swimming, splashing, snorkeling, and just having fun.


MAT CIT Training Weekend:

this is a weekend long session that helps veteran campers transition into being a counselor (CIT). In preparation for becoming role models for the younger generations of campers, participants in the CIT Camp will undergo a training schedule that mimics the staff-training period prior to summer camp. They will also study, plan, and participate in several camp activities.


Girls Just Want to Have FUN Overnight:

Ok girls this is a camp just for us!!! We are going to hit the local thrift shops to pick outfits to go with the theme of our choice. Then we head to basecamp for an overnight filled with doing hair, cooking, baking, karaoke, dancing, swimming and a special dip in the basecamp wood fired hot tub.


City Of Rocks Climbing Adventure:

BIKE RAFT AND CLIMB: Get ready for a BIG adventure. We are headed to our private bike course at the ranch. Next, we head to Lowman for a ride down the Payette River with the experienced guides from Payette River Company. Our final adventure will be an overnight at Basecamp followed by a half day of climbing with Sawtooth Mountain Guides. In between hardcore activities we will do what we do best at Mountain Adventure ToursÉ. HAVE FUN!


Zip Line Adventure:

This camp is headed to Horseshoe Bend to meet with the best zip line guides in Idaho. With a series of 7 zip lines ranging from 175 to 1800 feet this is the ultimate adrenaline rush. Campers will start with a beginner course with the opportunity to go as far as they feel comfortable. Age limit is flexible, but it is mandatory that your child weighs at least 80 lbs with NO exceptions. This will be a double overnight so bring your sleeping bag and good times!


Payette River School:

Does your child ever dream of becoming a raft guide during the summer months? This camp is the gateway to a college summer profession. Explore raging whitewater in the beautiful Payette River Valley where MAT and Payette River Company will prepare you for problem solving, outdoor, Dutch oven cooking, basic medical and emergency evacuation and river knowledge. Learn how to flip a raft back over and get in, read white water and guide paddle strokes while observing an impressive combination of native birds, fish and wildlife. 


Wild West Pioneers and Native Americans:

To wrap up our summer season the children here will set off with some of our best Custer County Historical Museum guides to see what and why people came to Idaho. GOLD!!! The kids will learn to pan for their own gold and learn what it was like to live back in the old days. Who was here before the Pioneers? Native Americans! We will travel around to ancient sites and markings of the Native Americans then build and sleep in our own traditional Native American Lodge. 


Parent & Child Mountain Quest:

Between emails, texts, schedules, plane flights, soccer practice, friends, and iPads, when do you spend quality time with your child? Here is a chance to unplug, and tune into the outdoors and your child. Grab your backpack as the MAT team with Sawtooth Mountain Guides take us on an epic 3 day quest into the beautiful wildness that surrounds Ketchum. You might want to bring your swimming suit as we will be cooling off in the serene alpine lakes along the way. Now what is the QUEST you might be asking yourself? To reconnect with ourselves and children, not just in the mountains, but everyday. 


My First Road Trip BOYS ONLY:

Do you remember your first road trip? Stopping for the bathroom, eating popcorn in the back of the car, camping from your family truck, seeing parts of the world that are lost when in flight? Well this is the summer to make memories. Boys only, as we head off in the MAT van to explore Idaho, camp along the way and have a brilliant time! 


Young Mens Journey & Survival Program:

This journey from Ketchum to BaseCamp over the Pioneer Mountains will not only test your young man, but give him the tools to succeed in todayÕs world. Travel light, learn fire starting, shelter building, how to gather food and water, how to travel safely, your overall survival/ program. From the physical to the mental change of becoming a man we will ask ourselves questions: Where does wisdom come from? Where does courage come from? How do I care for the earth? How do I care for others and myself? What is my purpose, special qualities, strengths and weaknesses? This is the time of passing on tradition and knowledge so we may have the strong leaders of tomorrow.
